In Language Arts…We will be assessing listening comprehension this week as well as phonics skills, concentrating on short o and plural s. To help your child with comprehension, after reading a story or book, ask a few questions about what he/she heard or what he/she read.

Please review the vocabulary words in the blue notebook. This week I will be asking the children to read the words from Story 2 for me.

Keep working on our reading strategies. As you listen to your child read, use the paper that was sent home to review these strategies.

Continuing Unit 2 in Math, keep any pages that come home to review. We will be taking a quiz on Missing Addends to 10 and Addition Facts on Wednesday.

During the week, your child will bring home more flashcards. These are just addition and any extra practice will benefit him/her greatly.

*Please send in your child’s costume in a bag on Thursday. Follow the guidelines sent home from the office.

**Electronics Day is on Friday. The students are allowed to bring in an Electronic Device with your permission. Please make sure it is charged.
If an electronic device is not available, the students may use a computer in the classroom.

In Language Arts…We had a spelling pretest today. If a homework paper comes home, please have your student write each misspelled word 3 times. This will be homework every night until Friday. These words are in the green notebooks. Review these words so he/she is prepared for the final test on Friday.

A decodable reader will be sent home on Wednesday. Please listen to your child read this several times with little to no errors. Sign the book somewhere and send it back.

The next set of vocabulary words will be written in the blue notebooks on Thursday. Don’t forget to review all the words in this book at least a few nights a week.

Keep working on our reading strategies. As you listen to your child read, use the paper that was sent home to review these strategies.

Math Unit 2 will cover commutative property again, as well as adding to 10, part-part-whole models and story problems. We will also review How Many More. Remember, any pages that come home can be kept and reviewed.

On Friday, your child will bring home some flashcards. These are just addition and any extra practice will benefit him/her greatly. Each week, we will add to our stack of flashcards.

If you haven’t done so already, please send in party money in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Thanks!

This Week's Happenings

10/14/19

Monday: No School
Tuesday: Day 3 > Music
Wednesday: Day 4 > Art
Thursday: Day 5 > Phys. Ed.
Friday: Day 6 > Computers

The second set of vocabulary words was introduced today. These are written in a BLUE notebook. Please review these words every day. I will be asking the children to read the words to me, beginning with the first set.

There will be a listening comprehension test this week on Friday. Asking your child questions after he/she reads a page or two from a story will help them build his/her comprehension skills.

Keep working on our reading strategies. As you listen to your child read, use the paper that was sent home to review these strategies.

Unit 2 in math continues…We are adding to 10, learning the commutative property and solving story problems.

Your children have been doing an awesome job with the new math program. If they mention Spring Math, that is the name. The first skill was to add to 6, and they met that goal. The second skill was to add to 12, and they met that goal! Now we are subtracting from 5.

We will have a Drug and Alcohol Prevention program on Wednesday.

If you haven’t done so already, please send in party money in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Thanks!

Homework is to listen to or read any material with your child, at least once a day.

Please sign and date the page on the back of the Friday Folder, thank you!

I hope you have a remarkable week!

This Week's Happenings

10/7/19

Monday: Day 6 > Computers
Tuesday: Day 7 > Music
Wednesday: Day 8 > Art
Thursday: Day 1 > Phys. Ed.
Friday: Day 2 > Library

The next Spelling List was introduced today. The words are written in a green notebook. If your child brings the notebook home that means he/she needs to practice spelling the words for the test on Friday. If this notebook does not come home, your child got 100% on the pretest and does not need to take the final test.

Any misspelled words on the pretest must be written 3 times each. This will be homework every day until the test on Friday.

Your children will also be assessed on their phonics skills. We will be concentrating on short i. You can help your child by reviewing words that have short I, like our spelling words. It will also be a review of short a and ck words.

The second decodable reader will be sent home on Thursday. “Jill Can” should be read to you. After you hear this book with very few errors, sign it and send it back. The children will be able to sound out or recognize the sight words without much difficulty.

Continue to work on the reading strategies. Please refer to the page I sent home when reading with your child. When you use the same language at home as they hear in school, it will really solidify the strategies and make them become automatic when they read independently.

Unit 2 in math began last week. We will be joining, separating and comparing numbers.

Homework is to listen to or read any material with your child, at least once a day.

Please sign and date the page on the back of the Friday Folder, thank you!

I hope you have a terrific week!
