This Week's Happenings

3/2/20

Monday: Day 3 > Music
Tuesday: Day 4 > Art
Wednesday: Day 5 > Phys. Ed.
Thursday: Day 6 > Computers
Friday: Day 7 > Music


In Language Arts…On Wednesday, the sound/spelling of long o – consonant – silent e and contractions will be assessed. We will also review all of the letter/sound combinations we have learned.


The comprehension assessment will be on Thursday. At this point, I will not be reading the story to the children. If anyone needs help with a word, I will help sound it out with him/her. Great News-no one needed the story read to them for the last test.


Review the vocabulary words in the blue notebook.


Keep working on our reading strategies. As you listen to your child read, use the paper that was sent home to review these strategies.


Math…Time and Measurement will be the topics for Unit 6. This week we will look at time to the hour.


Brainshow Mania was today!


Reading Logs for February are due tomorrow.


This week is Career Week. If anyone would like to come in and share their career with the class, you are certainly welcome. We can schedule something any time from now until the end of the school year.


Dress like your HERO on Friday.


*Friday will be our Spring Math Reward. Your child may bring in an electronic device with your permission. * (Our new skill is subtraction to 15.)


-Homework is to listen to your child read any book he/she is interested in every day and then add it to your reading log.

In Language Arts…Today we had the spelling pretest. If your child brings home their green spelling notebook, he/she will have homework. Any misspelled words must be written 3 times each, every day of the week. We will have the final test on Friday.

Review the vocabulary words in the blue notebook. There will be a new set of words written this week.

A Decodable Reader will be sent home on Wednesday. Please listen to your student read this several times until it becomes fluent. Sign the book and send it back.

Keep working on our reading strategies. As you listen to your child read, use the paper that was sent home to review these strategies.

Math…Wrapping up Unit 5 this week. There will be an assessment on plane shapes, solid figures and fractions. The children have been doing very well with these concepts.

On Friday, we will have students from Bloomsburg University present a lesson on a Dr. Seuss book.

Friday: NO SCHOOL

In Language Arts…On Wednesday the sounds of long a – consonant – silent e, soft c(s) and soft g(j). Some examples of this are the words tape, race, page. When c or g are followed by e, i or y then their sounds are soft.

Thursday will be the listening comprehension test. Just like the last assessment, I will give the students time to read the story on their own and complete the questions. Then I will read it out loud. The students will need to read the questions on their own.

Math…Unit 5 continues. This week we will be introduced to solid figures. There will also be a quiz on addition.

Reading Logs for January need to be in by tomorrow. I will be sending home the Pizza Hut certificates in the Friday Folder.

Book orders were due today. I will wait until tomorrow to place the order in case anyone forgot.
