Monday: Day 10 > Library Class
Tuesday: Day 1 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Thursday: Day 3 > Music Class
Friday: Day 4 > Computer Class >Pep Rally for Homecoming!

*Follow your schedule you received for the week of Spirit Days*

Our cycle will continue this week in Reading… The Spelling words will be assessed on Tuesday, along with the first comprehension and phonics test. The vocabulary words will be orally assessed also. On Wednesday the second story will be introduced. New Spelling words will be pretested(green notebook), new vocabulary words will come home(blue notebook). At this time our Reading schedule is on a 7 day cycle. All assessments for story 2 will take place at the end of next week.

We will continue practicing important reading strategies. Check for Understanding-this is when we stop reading after a few pages and try to remember what we have read so far. If we are not sure, then we Back Up and Reread. These two strategies will help with Comprehension. Cross Checking for Accuracy is when we come upon a word that we are not sure of, after we attempt to sound it out, we ask ourselves, (1) Does is look right? (2) Does it sound right? (3) Does it make sense? Find, read and use interesting words to Expand our Vocabulary. Just like it states, we are looking for words that are new to read and write so that we can expand our vocabulary. Fluency is reading smoothly, with expression and understanding what was read. Rereading the same text increases fluency. A new strategy we added was Use Pictures. You can use pictures to help with Comprehension and Accuracy. Read Good-Fit Books is a strategy that covers three different strategies: Comprehension, Accuracy and Fluency. A Good-Fit Book is a book that your child can read without more than 5 errors.

Subtraction is our new topic in Math. We will be finding missing parts for 6, 7, 8 and 9, writing subtraction sentences and working on take – away stories.

Homework: 1. Read with your student or let them read to you. (Remember to write them on the Reading Log, these are due on Wednesday.) 2. Spelling Test on Tuesday- review in Green Notebook if necessary 3. Review words in the Blue Notebook 4. Look over any math pages that are in the Take-Home Folder.

**Review Friday Folder material. Sign the back page and return on Monday.**

Monday: Day 5 > Library Class
Tuesday: Day 6 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 7 > Phys. Ed.

Look for this in the take-home folder. Please review the words that come home on Tuesday in the notebook. These are vocabulary words that need to be read orally, not spelled. On Thursday, a decodable reader “Jack and Dad Pack” will come home and should be read to you several times for accuracy and fluency. (Write this on the Reading Log.) Return these so they can be read to me on Friday.

Thank you to those who have returned the papers from Meet the Teacher. If you have not, please send them in as soon as possible. (Remember to send back the plastic folder. The NS folder is yours to keep.)

This week we will begin our stamina building. Day by day the length of time will increase when we are reading independently. The children will also be learning some group work rules. This is a long process but has fantastic rewards when complete!

‘Elbow buddy’ may be something you hear at home. An ‘elbow buddy’ is a reading partner. They sit next to each other, elbow to elbow and knee to knee.

The math pages that come home are yours to keep. Please review the work with your child. This week will be adding numbers to 9.

Friday we will be attending a Pep Rally. You may wear Spartan shirts.

Please remember our schedule is always subject to change.

No School on Monday! Tuesday will be Day 6 > Art
