This Week's Happenings

5/16/16

Monday: Day 5 > Library Class
Tuesday: Day 6 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 7 > Phys. Ed.
Thursday: Day 8 > Music Class
Friday: Day 9 > Computer Class

Review the spelling words in the green notebook. Test is tomorrow.

Comprehension and written tests will be tomorrow, also. Please read “Tippy Toe Chick, Go” tonight.

There will be a Decodable Reader to read on Friday. This should be read several times so that the children do not need to sound out any words. Therefore, they will achieve appropriate fluency. Sign the book and send it back on Monday.

Remember to review the words in the blue notebook. These words should be read on sight. They should not have to be sounded out. I have been listening to the children read these words to me as a final assessment on vocabulary words.

We will be beginning Topic 15 Geometry this week. Please review any pages that come home.

We are still working on memorizing addition facts up to 9. Math fluency is just as important and necessary as reading fluency.

Homework is always to read every night with your child.

-Don’t forget that our room is chilly at times. Please send in a jacket, sweatshirt or sweater WITHOUT a hood. Even though the temperatures are slowly rising outside, our room’s temperature does not.

-We will be going outside for recess unless it is raining or below 40 degrees so send your son/daughter with weather appropriate clothing.

**Review Friday Folder material. Sign the back page and return on Monday. **

I hope you have an excellent week!

Monday (5/23) will be Day 10 > Guidance Class

Review the spelling words in the green notebook. Test is tomorrow.

Comprehension and written tests will be tomorrow, also. Please read “Henry and Mudge” tonight.

There will be a Decodable Reader to read on Friday called “Chow”. This should be read several times so that the children do not need to sound out any words. Therefore, they will achieve appropriate fluency. Sign the book and send it back on Monday.

Remember to review the words in the blue notebook. These words should be read on sight. They should not have to be sounded out.

Topic 14 concludes this week. The review page will be coming home on Wednesday. The assessment will be Thursday.

Addition facts up to 9 should be memorized. This will not happen unless they are practiced at home. There are very few children who are able to give answers on sight. In second grade it is very helpful if the children do not need to take the time to figure out the addition problems.
Thanks for your cooperation.
