In Phonics, I will be assessing fluency and sounds and letters taught thus far. The new concepts are using and spelling final, stable syllables –ble, -fle, -ple and -dle. The homework this week will continue to be done differently. Please complete the back of the page and review the words in the box. Don’t forget to sign it!

“A Big Fish for Max” is the story we have been working on in reading. Review the words on the vocabulary pages from week. Also, the book will be sent home on today. Have your child read this to you or take turns. Let them hear you model reading.

Look for the green folder to come home again this week with Decodable Reader 19. Please read this with your child at least 2 times. Remember to sign it! Thank you for your cooperation. We are continually working on accuracy, fluency and expression. These are skills that are needed to comprehend. Comprehension is a skill that we use to be successful in reading.

No Spelling List this week!
Subtraction to 20 will be assessed next week. Look for any pages that come home especially the Reteaching page on Friday.

We have Guidance Class on Tuesday with Mrs. Hull. Ask your child what they learned.

This Week's Happenings

1/6/14

Monday: Day 1 > Music Class
Tuesday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Wednesday: Day 3 > Library Class
Thursday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Friday: Day 5 > Art Class

In Phonics, I will be assessing fluency and sounds and letters taught thus far. The new concepts are spelling with final c and using and spelling final, stable syllable –ble. I know these sound odd but when the pages come home read over them with your child and both of these should make more sense . The new letter/sound is Vv. The homework this week will be done differently. You will now complete the back of the page and review the words in the box. Don’t forget to sign it!

“A Big Fish for Max” is the story we will work on in reading. Look for vocabulary pages to come home in the take-home folders later this week. Also, the book will be sent home on Thursday. Have your child read this to you or take turns. Let them hear you model reading.

Look for the green folder to come home again this week with Decodable Reader 18. Please read this with your child at least 2 times. Remember to sign it! Thank you for your cooperation. We are continually working on accuracy, fluency and expression. These are skills that are needed to comprehend. Comprehension is a skill that we use to be successful in reading.

Spelling List #8 will be assessed this week. It is a list we began before the break. The students will bring home a list again, in case you can not find the old one.

Subtraction to 20 is continuing in Math. Related facts, using addition to solve subtraction problems and making 10 to subtract are all concepts we will be discussing. Review these math pages. Subtraction is a tricky topic for first graders. Assessing this skill will take place next week.

I hope you have a far-out week!

*Monday will be Day 1 – Music*
