This Week's Happenings


10/29/18

Monday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Tuesday: Day 5 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 6 > Library Class – Halloween Party and Parade at 2:00
Thursday: Day 7 > Phys. Ed.
Friday: Day 8 > Music Class

In Language Arts… The new words will be pre-assessed on Wednesday. If your child brings home the green Spelling notebook, then he/she should be studying the words for next week’s test. Written homework will be on Thursday.

Keep reviewing the vocabulary words. There will be new words in the blue notebooks on Thursday. These words will be read to me next week. Also, if your child has a card stapled to the inside cover of this notebook, please spend extra time looking over those words.

There will not be a decodable reader sent home this week.

Remember, when listening to your child read, use the strategies that we have been working on in school. Refer to the page sent home.

Math…This week we will be adding and subtracting. Practice adding numbers that equal 10. Keep any papers to review that are sent home.

Please send in your child's costume in a bag on Wednesday.

-October Reading Logs due on Friday. New reading logs will be sent home then.

-Follow the Dress-Up days listed at the top of the page for the end of RED RIBBON Week.

-Homework is to read any book your child is interested in every day and then add it to your reading log.

-We will be going outside for recess when the temperature is above 40 degrees. Please dress your child accordingly.

In Language Arts… A decodable reader will be sent home on Wednesday. Please listen to your child read it. He/she should be able to sound out all words in the books. Sign the reader so I know your child read this to you several times. Send it back in the take-home folder. (Last week there were many students who did not complete this homework.) Thank you for your cooperation.

Keep reviewing the vocabulary words. A new list was written in the blue notebooks last week. I will be listening to the students read these to me on Thursday.

For spelling, written homework for those students who brought home their spelling notebook (green) is on Monday and Wednesday. The final test will be on Thursday.

Math…We are still in Unit 2, joining and separating numbers. To help your child, you can practice adding numbers to 10. You can also practice even and odd numbers as well as skip counting by 5s and 10s.

In Language Arts… A decodable reader came home today. Please listen to your child read it. He/she should be able to sound out all words in the books. Sign the reader so I know your child read this to you several times. Send it back in the take-home folder. Thank you for your cooperation.

Keep reviewing the vocabulary words. The new list was written in the notebooks last week and another will be in on Friday. I will be listening to last week’s words on Wednesday.

For spelling, the final test on short o words will be on Wednesday. If your child brought home his/her Spelling notebook, he/she should be practicing the words. Spelling homework, to write the words is on Tuesday.

Math…Unit 2 is joining and separating numbers. We are adding to 10, finding missing numbers and writing number sentences. Keep any papers that are sent home.

10/8/18

Friday: Day 3 > Music Class


If you choose to purchase anything from the book fair, please send money in an envelope with your child’s name.

Spelling words will be pre-tested tomorrow. If your child brings home their green notebook and homework paper, each misspelled word must be
written 3 times. The final test will be next week.

Continue to read the words in the blue notebook. Any vocabulary words that your son/daughter did not know will be stapled to the inside cover. A new set of words will be written on Thursday.

No Decodable Reader this week.

We are always working on our reading strategies. Please refer to the page I sent home when reading with your child. When you use the same language at home as they hear in school, it will really solidify the strategies and make them become automatic when they read independently.

Unit 1 Math Assessments were terrific! Our first Math Journal is complete and will be in their folder today. The children worked really hard and did an awesome job on these. They are yours to keep. Unit 2 begins this week. Any papers that come home may be kept at home as well.


Follow the Spirit Day Dress Ups information that was sent home on Friday.
