This Week's Happenings

5/26/15

Monday: No School
Tuesday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Wednesday: Day 5 > Art Class
Thursday: CARNIVAL! (more information below)
Friday: No Day >Early Dismissal

This is the final ‘This Week’s Happenings’ for this school year!

There will not be any official homework this week.

Read, read, read! Remember to continue to read all of the time. This should be done everyday. You will only get better if you practice. Also, take advantage of the Accelerated Reader program. The children really enjoyed this in school. It helps them read for comprehension, which is an essential skill used all of the time.

Keep practicing the addition facts to 20. This will give you a huge advantage. If these facts are memorized, it makes many other mathematic operations easier. After addition you can move to subtraction. Some summer fun activities!

On Thursday, the NSE will have our carnival. The children should dress as if they have Phys. Ed. They may wear t-shirts. You can put sunscreen on or send it in. They may wear hats and sunglasses. If you have any questions, please let me know. It will be a very active, exciting day. Those of you who did not order a lunch from the cafeteria, remember to send a lunch with your child. No snack needed.

The students will be dismissed at 11:45 on Friday. Of course no snack needed.

Thank you for a great school year!

I hope you have a super, safe summer!

This Week's Happenings

5/18/15

Monday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Tuesday: Day 5 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 1 > Music Class
Thursday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Friday: Day 3 > Library

Topic 14 is coming to a close in math class. Today the reteaching page was completed. It is in the take-home folder. Please review this for the test tomorrow. We will begin Topic 15 on Wednesday. This topic is Geometry. As always, look over the pages that come home and correct any errors for homework.

The Decodable Reader should be read Wednesday. Only those children that I have told need to have it signed and returned. Ask your son/daughter if he/she has to bring it back. Sign it after you have heard your child read it with accuracy and fluency. It should come back on Thursday.

Review the spelling words every night for the final test on Friday if necessary.

Read “Henry and Mudge” in the reading book Thursday. Also look over the pages prior to the story. The assessment on these skills and comprehension will be on Friday.

Don’t forget to read over the words in the blue notebook. This only has to be done once or twice during the week.

As I mentioned in last week’s note, Accelerated Reader is a program we use to assess comprehension skills on books read at the student’s level. Your son/daughter has a username and password to log in to this site. He/She will be able to start earning points over the summer. Look for the Accelerated Reader link on the NS page. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Read, read, read! Remember to continue to read all of the time. This should be done everyday. You will only get better if you practice.

Friday will be the final time to review papers and sign the Friday Folder. On the 29th, the folder is yours to keep. Thank you for your cooperation with this task all school year. Only one more signature required!

I hope you have an exceptional week!

Enjoy your Memorial Day holiday! (No school Monday, May 25)

Read “Peter’s Chair” in the reading book Thursday. Also look over the pages prior to the story. The assessment on these skills and comprehension will be on Friday.

Don’t forget to read over the words in the blue notebook. This only has to be done once or twice during the week.

Continue to review all pages in the Friday Folder, sign and return any tests that are stamped. These tests are very important to review and return. Also, sign and date the back page of the Folder. >>I am not asking for all tests come back signed.
Please only send back those tests that are stamped. If it is not stamped, it is yours to keep at home.

Please keep reading every day. Reading is a homework assignment that all children should be completing each night. Remember to write the books you read on the Reading Log (in the plastic sleeve). Sign and return the page when complete and another one will be sent home. Even though the drawing was last week, we still need to keep on reading.

Accelerated Reader is a program we use to assess comprehension skills on books read at the student’s level. Each child has had the opportunity to take a quiz on the computer in our class. This program will be used in second grade. (We got a jump-start for next year.) The children did great. More information is to follow!

I hope you have an excellent week!

Monday will be Day 4 > Computer Class
