This Week's Happenings

11/28/17


Monday: No School
Tuesday: Day 10 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 1 > Keyboarding
Thursday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Friday: Day 3 > Music Class

In Language Arts… Keep reviewing the vocabulary words in the green notebook. This week we will be writing the last set of words for book 2. Next week the students will be reading all Book 2 words to me.

Every misspelled word on the Spelling pre-test must be written 3 times each. This will be a total of 3 nights of homework this week (no homework on the weekend except to study). The final test on today’s words will be Monday.

A decodable reader will come home on Friday. Please listen to your child read it. He/she should be able to sound out all words in the book.

Remember, when listening to your child read, use the strategies that we have been working on in school. Refer to the page sent home.


Math…Introduction of Topic 5 Addition Facts to 20 is today. Some of the skills are adding doubles and doubles plus 1 and 2. There will be more flashcards added to the envelopes. Please review the math pages and flashcards. Return the Flashcard Envelopes each day.

-Homework is to read any book your child is interested in every day and then add it to your reading log.

-Reading Logs are due on Thursday.

Math…Topic 4 – The review page came home today for the test tomorrow.

On Wednesday, we will have our PBIS Reward. Your child may bring electronics to school. It can be a game or tablet or any electronic you will allow. Please be sure to have it charged.

-Book orders will be accepted tomorrow, in case you forgot today.

Homework in spelling every night must have worked because this was the best results on the final test yet. So we will continue, if your child brought home his/her Spelling notebook, he/she will have written homework. Every misspelled word on the pre-test must be written 3 times each for every day before the test. This will be a total of 4 nights of homework. The final test on today’s words will be on Friday.

Math…Topic 4 - We are adding and problem solving this week. More math flashcards will be in the envelope. Please review the math pages and flashcards. Return the Flashcard Envelopes each day.

We will go outside for recess unless it is below 40˚ so please dress your child accordingly.

Friday is a Dress Down Day for a donation to our Veterans and Active Military. Some examples are: chap stick, gum, playing cards, card games, snack bags of nuts/crackers, shampoo, baby wipes, etc. See the paper that was in the Friday Folder last week.

In Language Arts… Keep reviewing the vocabulary words in the green notebook. This week we will add our 4th set of words for book 2.

For spelling, the final test on today’s words will be on Friday. Beginning with this list, if your child brought home his/her Spelling notebook, he/she will have written homework. Every misspelled word on the pre-test must be written 3 times each for every day before the test. This will be a total of 4 nights of homework. Look for the Spelling Notebook, it is tan with red spiral binding.

Math…Topic 4 - We are adding and subtracting this week. Adding Doubles and Near Doubles along with Subtraction that begins with 0, 1, 2. Many different strategies will be introduced. Look for math flashcards in the take-home folders this week. We will add to these as the weeks go on, please review so the facts become memorized.


I am so disappointed in the amount of students who did not turn in an October reading log. I try to stress to the students that reading is very important. It is homework every day. There really should not be anyone who is unable to read 15 books in a month. Please impress upon your children to read each night. This will only make them stronger readers.
