Wow, it is Thanksgiving Break already! Our time has really gone by quickly. This week in Phonics I will be assessing their fluency. There will not be any new sounds/letters or concepts taught. Please continue to read over the holiday. In January, the children will be reading a story of their choice to the class. This would be a great time to look through some books/stories you have at home to pick and read out loud.

Topic 4 Assessment will be given Tuesday. Review pages will be in your child’s take-home folder today. Please check over these with your child.

Thank you for all your cooperation so far. There are many changes this year and you have been very patient and understanding. Thanks again.

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and a relaxing break!

Tuesday will be Day 4>Computer Class

This Week's Happenings

11/4/13

Monday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed. Hope you wore Sneakers!
Tuesday: Day 3 > Library Class
Wednesday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Thursday: Day 5 > Art Class
Friday: Day 1 > Music Class

The new sounds and concepts for this week in Phonics are words that contain vowel-consonant-consonant-vowel patterns; the letter/sound of w, short u and long u. Review the pages that come home in the take-home folder. The new sight words are put, want and was. We will be doing Phonics Homework whenever a page comes home… Ironically, it will most likely not be the side that says Homework! Ha Ha! The children will code the words on the front of the paper and then they must read these words to you. During the week a Decodable Reader will be homework also. (Look for the green phonics folder.)The children should be reading this to you with little to no errors. We are continually working on fluency, so please have them read it more than once. Sign the back and return it the next school day.

The Reading Book will be sent home this week. Please read “The Big Blue Ox”. The words to review are on the pages before the story.

List #5 is in your child’s take home folder. Review and practice these words.

Five and Ten Relationships assessment was today. This was a Topic that many children had no trouble with. As with the last assessment, I will only send it home if there are errors to review. If you don’t see it then you know that he/she did well!

Our new topic, Topic 4 is Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12. The new topic is teaching strategies to help children remember the facts and figure them out if they don’t have them memorized. This topic will take us through the next couple weeks. Review all the pages that come home and practice the new concept.

I hope you have an astonishing week!
