Monday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed. Hope you wore Sneakers!
Tuesday: Day 3 > Library Class
Wednesday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Thursday: Day 5 > Art Class
Friday: Day 1 > Music Class

Red Ribbon Week-follow the schedule for each day

Monday and Tuesday will be assessment days in Phonics. The children will be reading a new Fluency Reader to me and showing me their knowledge of the letters and sounds we have studied so far. The new sound for this week is digraph th. Th makes 2 different sounds. Ask your child about them on Wednesday. Review the page that comes home in the take-home folder. The new sight words are their and there.

We are beginning our Reading Series this week. Your child will be bringing home a vocabulary list. Have your child read the words and use them in a sentence. (These words do not need to be spelled.) Next week the Reading book will be sent home to read the story. More information will be on next week’s note.

Spelling List #4 will be sent home today. It would be a great help to review these even though there will not be a formal test. I do have the children spell the words during our Phonics lessons. Spelling words that are grade appropriate is a Common Core Standard that everyone will have to meet before entering 2nd grade.

The new Topic in Math is Five and Ten Relationships. Look for the pages and review this new concept.

Please remember to complete and return the Parent-Teacher Conference Form. It is due Monday, November 4.

The weather is turning colder and recess will be outside unless it is below 40 degrees. Please dress your child to be outside for 30 minutes. You can send in hats, gloves, scarves, etc.

I hope you have a remarkable week!

This Week's Happenings

10/7/13

Monday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Tuesday: Day 5 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 1 > Music Class
Thursday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed. Wear Sneakers!
Friday: Day 3 > Library Class

Our Phonics lessons this week will cover the sounds of b, m and e. The new sight words are what, from and are. Most of the students know how to rhyme but some of us need a bit more practice. Rhyming is a pre-reading skill. If you ask your child to give you rhyming words and he/she can not, review with them that rhyming words end the same. Please review all pages that come home this week.
Also continue to review our reading strategies. Ask your child questions about the story he/she reads. Reading and rereading the same story will build fluency. If a fluency word list comes home, please review for homework. Not all of the students will bring home a list.
Spelling List #3 will be sent home today. As I stated before, no formal test will be given but these words are spelled on a daily basis in class. Reviewing the list will benefit your child in many ways. It will help with writing and reading not just spelling.
This will be the last week we will spend on Topic 2 Understanding Subtraction. An assessment will be given next week. Look for the pages that come home this week and review these concepts. I will be reteaching any lessons necessary after reviewing on Friday. Tuesday 10/15 – final review day. Wednesday – assessment.

I hope you have an exceptional week!
