This Week's Happenings

3/13/17

Monday: Day 7 > Physical Ed.
Tuesday: Day 8 > Music Class
Wednesday: Day 9 > Computer Class Art Class
Thursday: Day 10 > Library Book Exchange
Friday: Day 1 > Art Class

The Spelling test was given today. Our new words will be in the TAN notebooks tomorrow. If your child brings home that notebook, please review these words. As of now, the test will be next Monday, 3/20.

On Friday, a decodable reader will be sent home. Please read it with your child a few times for fluency. Some students must get this signed and return it to read to me. It is important to practice so that the children do not need to sound out any words. You may add it to the Reading Log.

Reading fluency will be graded in the last trimester. The goal for the end of the year in first grade is 47 words correct in one minute. Practicing reading stories and books on their level will prepare them for this. Good news…most children are already
reading very well, so this goal will not be difficult to reach.

Keep reviewing the vocabulary words in the BLUE notebook.

Topic 9 is a very small set of lessons. Review the next few pages that come home. We will assess these skills on Friday. Please look over the Reteaching page on Thursday.

Keep working on addition facts. Use the flashcards to gain fluency. We are completing 2 minute drills now.

Don’t Forget! Your child should be reading all stories to you. This is considered HOMEWORK every single day. After reading the book, add it to the Reading Log. When listening to your child read, remember to use those strategies that we have worked on since the start of the school year.

We will be going outside for recess unless it is raining or below 40 degrees so send your son/daughter with weather appropriate clothing.

**Review Friday Folder material, sign the page and return on Monday.**

I hope you have a snow-free week! (HaHa!)

Monday (3/20) will be Day 2 > Phys. Ed. >Wear your sneakers!
