This Week's Happenings

9/14/15

Monday: Day 10 > Guidance Class
Tuesday: Day 1 > Art Class
Wednesday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Thursday: Day 3 > Music Class
Friday: Day 4 > Computer Class

In Language Arts, the students have been learning and practicing important reading strategies. Check for Understanding-this is when we stop reading after a few pages and try to remember what we have read so far. If we are not sure, then we Back Up and Reread. These two strategies will help with Comprehension. Cross Checking for Accuracy is when we come upon a word that we are not sure of, after we attempt to sound it out, we ask ourselves, (1) Does is look right? (2) Does it sound right? (3) Does it make sense? Find, read and use interesting words to Expand our Vocabulary. Just like it states, we are looking for words that are new to read and write so that we can expand our vocabulary.

The new strategy for this week will be under Fluency. Fluency is reading smoothly, with expression and understanding what was read. Rereading the same text is the first strategy in this category.

For Math, we will be finding new ways to think about addition. The lessons are ways to make 9, addition sentences, adding in any order and solving story problems. Please take a look and examine any errors on the pages that come home in the Take-Home Folder.

Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday, September 18.

Homework: Read with your student or let them read to you. If he/she is not able to read all of a book or story, let them read some words on a page. (Remember to write them on the Reading Log.)

**Review Friday Folder material. Sign the back page and return on Monday.**

I hope you have a fantastic week!

Monday will be Day 5>Library Class
