In Language Arts, we have started pre-assessing spelling short vowel sound words. We also were introduced to new vocabulary words and will continue to add to our vocabulary notebooks this week. The vocabulary notebooks will come home on Tuesday. I am asking that you listen to your son/daughter read these words. Please put this notebook in your child’s book bag when finished. It will continue to be sent home daily from this point on and I will inform you when new words are added.

Our Daily 5 groups will begin this week. All of our hard work building the stamina needed to make this a success will soon start to pay off.

The Addition assessments were terrific! I was very proud of the whole class. Way to go family support. You did a great job getting them ready and prepared for our very first math test.

Understanding Subtraction is beginning this week. Look for the pages in the take-home folders. Review any errors and concepts to keep your child on track. We will be looking for missing parts of 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Homework is to read any book your child is interested in and then add it to your reading log.

Please sign and date the page on the back of the Friday Folder, thank you!

I hope you have a lovely week!

Monday: Day 10 > Art Class
Tuesday: Day 1 > Keyboarding
Wednesday: No Day >>>> 2 Hour Data Delay
Thursday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Friday: Day 3 > Music Class

In Language Arts, we will continue with our reading strategies to become better readers. As you are reading with your child, ask him/her about what he/she has learned and how to use these strategies.

We are still building our stamina in order to have the muscle to do group work. Our Read to Self/Read to Someone stamina will be up to 10 minutes. The Writing stamina time will be 16 minutes by the end of this week.

The children have now been introduced to the Listening Center. By the end of the week we will learn another of our groups. We are really getting close to try group work. Hopefully if all goes well by the end of next week we can begin!

For Math, we will be finding new ways to think about addition. The lessons are ways to make 8 and 9, joining numbers and adding in any order. Please discuss the topic and examine any errors on the pages that come home in the Take-Home Folder. We did not get as much accomplished last week as I had hoped. We had many changes to our schedule and math suffered for it. 

Tuesday is Picture Day. Don't forget your PSP envelopes.

Homework is to read any material with your child, at least once a day and then add it to your reading log.

Please sign and date the page on the back of the Friday Folder, thank you!

I hope you have a lovely week!

Wednesday: Day 7 > Phys. Ed.

In Language Arts, we have added to our reading strategies… The new strategies for this week will be Cross Checking for Accuracy. When we come upon a word that we are not sure of, after we attempt to sound it out, we ask ourselves, (1) Does is look right? (2) Does it sound right? (3) Does it make sense? Another strategy is Tune Into Interesting Words to Expand our Vocabulary. This is exactly what it sounds like, find and read interesting words.

We will be building our stamina for group work. By the end of the week we will be up to reading 6 minutes with a partner or to ourselves. Building our writing stamina will be up to 12 minutes.

For Math, we will be finding new ways to think about addition. The lessons are ways to make 6, 7, 8 and 9. Please discuss the topic and examine any errors on the pages that come home in the Take-Home Folder.
