This Week's Happenings
5/15/17
Monday: Day 7 > Phys. Ed.
Tuesday: Day 8 > Music Class
Wednesday: Day 9 > Computer Class
Thursday: Day 10 > Mr. Hinkel Activity *
Friday: Day 1 > Art Class
I was not in school on Friday. The school was unable to find a substitute so the class had to be split into groups and spend the day with another first grade teacher. Due to this, the Friday Folder was not sent home. You will notice it came home today. Please send it back to school tomorrow.
Our Spelling test this week will be on Wednesday. New words will be given on Thursday. If your child comes home with the TAN notebook and a homework paper, please have them write each misspelled word 3 times.
Continue to review the words in the BLUE notebook. We will have added 4 sets of words in Book 5 by this time.
Reading Fluency checks will take place twice a week for the students who need to read 47 words in a minute. The best practice for this is to read, so keep reading!
We have begun Geometry. The students will be learning about plane shapes and solid figures. The other topic we will be delving into is Adding and Subtracting Two-Digit Numbers. Review all pages that come home.
Three Math Fact Fluency checks will be completed this week. There was one more student that reached the goal! Now we are striving for Advanced by finishing even more problems with sums 10-20 in 3 minutes. So if your child has conquered the sums to 9, please review these higher facts. If your child is still working to reach the sums to 9 goal, then you are continuing to review those.
*There will no longer be Library Book Exchange. If your child still has a library book, please return it as soon as possible.
Don’t Forget! Your child should be reading all stories to you. This is considered HOMEWORK every single day.
**Review Friday Folder material, sign the page and return on Monday.**
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Monday (5/22) will be Day 2 > Phys. Ed. (Don’t forget your sneakers.)

Wednesday: Day 4 > Computer Class (wear sneakers)

Our Field Trip was wonderful! The students had a terrific time and their behavior was a great example of what we want others to see from North Schuylkill Elementary. I would like to thank the chaperones who kept everything flowing so nicely: Mr. Brouse, Mrs. Coyle, Mrs. Devaney, Mrs. Holmes, Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Montgomery, Ms. Hale, Ms. Rabbits, Mr. Stump, Mrs. Wetzel. You all were so helpful and awesome! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

On Wednesday we will be doing an activity with some high school students for Kick Butts Day. This is a program that allows older students to impress upon the younger children not to start smoking or engaging in unhealthy habits. Please have your children to wear sneakers. (Rain date will be Thursday.)
