This Week's Happenings

11/28/16

Monday: No School
Tuesday: Day 9 > Computer Class
Wednesday: Day 10 > Book Exchange
Thursday: Day 1 > Art Class
Friday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed. (wear sneakers)

The new spelling list was pre-assessed today. If your child had all the words correct, you will not see this TAN notebook. For the children who had errors, these words should be reviewed for the assessment. This will not take place until next Tuesday (12/6).

The last set of words will be added to the Blue notebook on Wednesday. Review these with your child.

Topic 4 Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12 will be assessed on Thursday. The Reteaching page will come home on Wednesday to practice the skills. This test will not be in the Friday Folders until next week.

If all goes well, the children will be bringing home flashcards to practice the math facts. Please review these so that they become memorized. The goal is to achieve fluency with our math facts to 18.

Reading logs should be turned in by Wednesday.

Don’t Forget! Reading any material that interests your child is excellent. This is considered HOMEWORK every single day.

We will be going outside for recess unless it is raining or below 40 degrees so send your son/daughter with weather appropriate clothing.

**Review Friday Folder material, Sign Green Signature Page and Return Folders on Monday!**

I hope you have an incredible week!

REPORT CARD DAY! Please review the report. You may keep this, but sign and send back the envelope tomorrow.

Today we assessed our spelling words. We will not get a new list until 11/29.

We have now moved into the time of year that all of the students will be reading the comprehension tests on their own. The only support I will give is reading the questions if needed.

The comprehension and written response (not graded yet) will be completed tomorrow.

Please continue to read/review the words in the BLUE notebook. Our last set of words will be given after Thanksgiving. I will let you know when I am ready to orally test all of Book 2 words.

Topic 4 in math is almost complete. We will have one lesson this week and wrap it up next week. The assessment will be on 12/1, but if something in our schedule changes, it may have to be moved. I will keep you posted if it is going to be on a different day.

Don’t Forget! Reading any material that interests your child is excellent. This is considered HOMEWORK every single day. After reading the book, add it to the Reading Log. When reading or listening to your child read, remember to use those strategies that we have worked on since the start of the school year. (Check for Understanding, Use the Pictures, Flip the Sound, and so many more…)

We will be going outside for recess unless it is raining or below 40 degrees so send your son/daughter with weather appropriate clothing.

**NO Friday Folder this week.**

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Tuesday: Day 2 > Phys. Ed.
Wednesday: Day 3 > Music Class
Thursday: Day 4 > Computer Class
Friday: Day 5 > Library Class

Today we assessed our spelling words, comprehension skills and completed a written response. Look for these in the Friday Folder.

The new spelling list will be pre-assessed on Tuesday. If your child had all the words correct, you will not see this TAN notebook. For the children who had errors, these words should be reviewed for the assessment. This will not take place until next Monday.

Please continue to read/review the words in the BLUE notebook. These words are just to read, not spell. They will be written in the blue notebook Wednesday. Keep reviewing these. The end of book 2 is close. After we get one more set of words, I will listen to each student read them to me.

On Friday a decodable reader will be sent home to read for fluency. This will not need to be returned. Fluency is when it is read smoothly with expression and is understood.

Topic 4 is Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12. Please review all papers that come home. The subtraction lessons will be taught this week. So far all students are showing that they understand the concept of addition . We will start practicing our Plus 2 facts!

Don’t Forget! Reading any material that interests your child is excellent. This is considered HOMEWORK every single day. After reading the book, add it to the Reading Log. Monday: Day 7 > Phys. Ed.
Tuesday: Day 8 > Music Class
2 Hour Data Delay >>> Wednesday: NO Day!
Thursday: Day 9 > Computer Class
Friday: Day 10 > Book Exchange

Today, the new spelling list was pre-assessed. If your child had all the words correct, you will not see this TAN notebook. For the children who had errors, these words should be reviewed for the assessment. This will not take place until next Monday, due to the Data Delay.

Please continue to read/review the words in the BLUE notebook. These words are just to read, not spell. They will be written in the blue notebook Tuesday. This is our fourth set of words. After we have all six sets of words, I will listen to each student read these to me, so keep reviewing them.

On Friday a decodable reader will be sent home to read for fluency. This will not need to be returned. Fluency is when it is read smoothly with expression and is understood.

Topic 4 is Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12. Please review all papers that come home. We will be working on strategies used to add and subtract. Your child will choose the strategy that works best for him/her. Our goal is to get the right answer, so however we reach that is an individual choice. Eventually, these will be memorized, that is why it is so important to learn these simple facts now. Keep practicing doubles and plus 1 facts.

Don’t Forget! Reading any material that interests your child is excellent. This is considered HOMEWORK every single day. After reading the book, add it to the Reading Log. When reading or listening to your child read, remember to use those strategies that we have worked on since the start of the school year.
